Patrick Usborne,
Founding Director

BSc(Phys), AADipl, ARB, RIBA

Patrick founded Perpendicular in 2019 with Aelene, together they committed to founding a practice to build for tomorrow not yesterday. An advocate of architectural innovation, Patrick regularly speaks about opportunities for designers to embrace modern methods of construction, and the use of engineered timber as a sustainable form of construction. Patrick teaches at the Architectural Association and is regularly an invited critic on jury panels.

Previously an Associate at de Rijke Marsh Morgan (dRMM), the 2018 Stirling Prize-winning practice, Patrick has been involved in the design and delivery of a number of key mixed-use, commercial, residential and educational buildings. This includes one of London’s tallest cross laminated timber buildings, and a new primary school in Cambridgeshire.

At Serie Architects Patrick collaborated with teams in China, Singapore, India and Kazakhstan and became well versed at delivering large scale international projects. Prior to this Patrick was a scholarship student at the world-leading Architectural Association for six years; and is still a key member of this international educational network.
