Clarion Housing Group

Working with Better Delivery (formally BD Solutions), we provided a peer review report for the preliminary MMC housing strategy carried out by Pollard Thomas Edward Architects. Using our collective MMC knowledge and experience, we proposed pragmatic improvements to both the design and potential delivery routes. Our solutions were predicated upon rectifying previous work, setting in place the parameters to progress, providing the optimised outcomes for all of Clarion’s pipeline of projects to allow their stakeholders to make robust, key driver metrics based, decisions.

Opening report introduction:

Optimising and developing a design that fully embraces the benefits of Modern Methods of Construction requires a completely different mindset and approach compared with delivering projects traditionally. In essence, both the design process and the procurement strategy needs to be developed from first principles. Inevitably this takes time, joined up action and investment. If the groundwork is done properly, this can pave the way for long term success and develop a housing and apartment product which is fit for purpose and adaptable to future needs and regulatory updates.

MMC is at odds with the traditional pigeon holed ways of working and requires a shift from siloed working mentality toward collaboration both within an organisation and externally in order to see the true benefit. Furthermore, MMC must be viewed as an enabler for positive change and not a destination in itself. Part of the Road Map to success is collating and consolidating all of CHG’s Key Strategy Documents, which include wider impacts such as ESG, sustainability & social value targets, collaborating with the right consultants and engaging with the supply chain from day one. This fully integrated approach ensures that the design team is developing a product which is buildable, and the supply chain is able to engage early to optimise the product.
